Creators Co-Lab Graduation Event: Celebrating Innovation and Collaboration
Curious – Brave – Collaborative – Entrepreneurial.
Four words that define the mindset of a creator.
These qualities were on full display in the latest Creators Co-Lab cohort, where participants embraced a completely new approach to multi-company innovation, breaking industry and geographic barriers.
- Curiosity led them to explore uncharted territories of co-innovation.
- Bravery allowed them to acknowledge knowledge gaps and leverage co-creation to fill them.
- Collaboration was built on mutual trust, shared vision, and collective idea generation.
- Entrepreneurial spirit drove them to tackle complex challenges, make bold decisions, and commit to meaningful solutions.
A Milestone Event in Co-Innovation
On January 31st, we celebrated the graduation of this inspiring cohort at the Unicorn Startup and Innovation Hub in Graz, hosted by Energie Steiermark AG and Next-Incubator. The event brought together representatives from multiple companies who had spent the past four months working intensively on groundbreaking projects.
Four Teams, Four Game-Changing Topics
Each of the four multi-corporate teams focused on a distinct innovation challenge:
- Internet of Energy (IoE): Building an energy community that truly works.
- Scalable Solutions Platform: Exploring how companies can scale their solutions through their customers.
- End-to-End Energy: Creating a complete value chain demonstrator.
- An Asset’s Life: Ensuring valuable resources are never lost.
These teams pitched their business cases to management, seeking feedback and potential investment to advance their projects. The teams included representatives from Infineon, A1, AVL, Keba, Siemens Energy, Energie Steiermark, and Pierer Innovation. Moderators guided the discussions, with two from the core Creators Co-Lab team and two external experts from Raiffeisenlandesbank Oberösterreich and Strategy Engineers.
The Journey: From Concept to Business Case
Over four months, the teams navigated the full co-innovation journey, progressing through the crucial phases of forming, storming, norming, and performing. This process was filled with excitement, occasional frustration, competing perspectives, and invaluable breakthroughs.
Key milestones included:
- Defining problems in a context-free manner before tailoring them to real-world challenges.
- Developing solutions collaboratively and refining them into viable business cases.
- Pitching to leadership with the goal of securing further commitment and investment.
Key Learnings: Lessons for Future Innovation
Throughout this journey, several crucial insights emerged:
- Feedback is gold – Engaging with experts helps uncover blind spots and refine ideas.
- Cooperation over competition – The most innovative solutions arise when diverse perspectives merge.
- Innovation with responsibility – Shared expertise not only creates value for customers but also strengthens partnerships.
- Diversity is a superpower – A variety of backgrounds doesn’t just generate new perspectives—it reshapes the way we define and solve problems.
The Biggest Mindset Shift
A defining moment of the program was the shift from “What’s in it for my company?” to “What’s the best solution, no matter the stakes?” True collaboration and co-innovation happen when teams prioritize the best outcome over individual gains. At its core, innovation is not just about what’s possible—it’s about what’s valuable. Transforming an idea into reality takes more than creativity; it requires a strong team and an effective process.
Congratulations to all the teams! We’re thrilled that all of these projects are already moving forward, and we can’t wait to see the impact they will have. With the next Creators Co-Lab cohort on the horizon, we look forward to building on this success and continuing to push the boundaries of collaborative innovation.
